This is the sample board I created using various woods and chemicals to demonstrate the use of chemicals for staining. The boards used are (from top to bottom) Mahogany, Maple, Cherry, Beech, Red Oak, Pine, Mesquite and Walnut. The Chemicals used are (from left to right) Iron Acetate, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Dichromate. I top coated with a few coats of sprayed on lacquer.
